What If Jesus Unfollowed You?

What If Jesus Unfollowed You?

If Jesus scrolled your life like a feed—would He stick around?

We count followers, track likes, and post carefully curated snapshots of our lives. But here’s a better question: If Jesus looked past the filters, beyond the Sunday smiles, and into the choices we make when no one’s watching… would He see someone truly following Him?

In a culture where faith is easy to post but hard to practice, it’s possible to think we’re following Jesus when we’re really just admiring Him from a distance. He said, ā€œFollow Meā€ā€”not just in word, but in action, in surrender, in priority.

ā€œFollowā€ is more than a button.

Jesus isn’t interested in being one of many influences on your feed. He’s not competing for screen time. He’s asking for your life. Not because He’s controlling, but because He knows what leads to real peace, purpose, and joy.

If we treat Him like a spiritual add-on—tuning in when we need help, tuning out when we’re comfortable—are we really following? Or are we expecting Him to follow us?

There was once a rich young man who came to Jesus sincerely. He checked all the spiritual boxes, obeyed all the rules, and seemed to have it all together. But when Jesus asked him to let go of what he loved most—his wealth—he walked away sad. He wanted to follow Jesus… until it cost something.

It’s easy to follow Jesus when it aligns with our plans. It’s harder when it asks for sacrifice. But real discipleship starts where comfort ends.

Would your priorities make Jesus pause?

Think about your last week. What got your attention, your energy, your affection? Was it Jesus—or everything else? Following Christ isn’t just about what you believe. It’s about how you live. What you value. Who you serve. And what you’re willing to walk away from when He calls you higher.

Imagine Jesus scrolling through your day: the conversations, the thoughts, the choices, the entertainment, the secret motives. Would He see someone living surrendered? Or someone holding back?

This isn’t about shame. It’s about reflection. Because Jesus doesn’t unfollow out of pettiness—but He does call us to choose. To stop treating Him like a spiritual accessory and start treating Him like the King He is.

Don’t just repost verses. Live them. Don’t just highlight your Bible. Obey it. Don’t just know His name. Follow His lead—even when it’s inconvenient, unpopular, or uncomfortable.

Following Jesus means letting Him lead—even when it’s not trending.

Jesus isn’t impressed by religious performance. He’s after your heart. Your yes. Your daily surrender. The question isn’t whether He’s still with you—He promises never to leave. The question is: Are you really walking with Him… or are you just hoping He’ll keep pace with your plans?

He’s not calling you to be perfect. He’s calling you to be real. To trade performance for presence. To stop chasing applause and start chasing Him.

Because at the end of the day, your follower count won’t matter. Only one relationship will. And He’s not after your content—He’s after your commitment.

If Jesus scrolled through your life right now… would He say, ā€œYou’re following Meā€ā€”or ā€œYou’ve gone your own wayā€?

Reflection Questions:

  • What part of my life have I kept off-limits to Jesus?
  • In what ways have I asked Jesus to follow my plans instead of following His?
  • If someone watched my week, would they see a disciple—or just a fan?
