What If Jesus Unfollowed You?
If Jesus scrolled your life like a feedāwould He stick around?
We count followers, track likes, and post carefully curated snapshots of our lives. But hereās a better question: If Jesus looked past the filters, beyond the Sunday smiles, and into the choices we make when no oneās watching⦠would He see someone truly following Him?
In a culture where faith is easy to post but hard to practice, itās possible to think weāre following Jesus when weāre really just admiring Him from a distance. He said, āFollow Meāānot just in word, but in action, in surrender, in priority.
āFollowā is more than a button.
Jesus isnāt interested in being one of many influences on your feed. Heās not competing for screen time. Heās asking for your life. Not because Heās controlling, but because He knows what leads to real peace, purpose, and joy.
If we treat Him like a spiritual add-onātuning in when we need help, tuning out when weāre comfortableāare we really following? Or are we expecting Him to follow us?
There was once a rich young man who came to Jesus sincerely. He checked all the spiritual boxes, obeyed all the rules, and seemed to have it all together. But when Jesus asked him to let go of what he loved mostāhis wealthāhe walked away sad. He wanted to follow Jesus⦠until it cost something.
Itās easy to follow Jesus when it aligns with our plans. Itās harder when it asks for sacrifice. But real discipleship starts where comfort ends.
Would your priorities make Jesus pause?
Think about your last week. What got your attention, your energy, your affection? Was it Jesusāor everything else? Following Christ isnāt just about what you believe. Itās about how you live. What you value. Who you serve. And what youāre willing to walk away from when He calls you higher.
Imagine Jesus scrolling through your day: the conversations, the thoughts, the choices, the entertainment, the secret motives. Would He see someone living surrendered? Or someone holding back?
This isnāt about shame. Itās about reflection. Because Jesus doesnāt unfollow out of pettinessābut He does call us to choose. To stop treating Him like a spiritual accessory and start treating Him like the King He is.
Donāt just repost verses. Live them. Donāt just highlight your Bible. Obey it. Donāt just know His name. Follow His leadāeven when itās inconvenient, unpopular, or uncomfortable.
Following Jesus means letting Him leadāeven when itās not trending.
Jesus isnāt impressed by religious performance. Heās after your heart. Your yes. Your daily surrender. The question isnāt whether Heās still with youāHe promises never to leave. The question is: Are you really walking with Him⦠or are you just hoping Heāll keep pace with your plans?
Heās not calling you to be perfect. Heās calling you to be real. To trade performance for presence. To stop chasing applause and start chasing Him.
Because at the end of the day, your follower count wonāt matter. Only one relationship will. And Heās not after your contentāHeās after your commitment.
If Jesus scrolled through your life right now⦠would He say, āYouāre following Meāāor āYouāve gone your own wayā?
Reflection Questions:
- What part of my life have I kept off-limits to Jesus?
- In what ways have I asked Jesus to follow my plans instead of following His?
- If someone watched my week, would they see a discipleāor just a fan?
